SVJ Moving

If you want children moving your furniture this is the way to go. They broke my furniture, HID IT, and have told me they would reimburse me for the damage but its been weeks and NOTHING! Maybe we can give them another star if they ever pay me back for the damages. If they had been up front about the damages in the first place they would have saved everyone a lot of time. Gil the office manager was also extremely rude and either doesn't know how to speak to women or doesn't know how to speak with a frustrated client both of which are required as part of his job. Absolutely the worst moving experience I have ever had. They are the cheapest because they are the worst. The first picture attached was from the driver ASSURING me my furniture that they "forgot in the truck" was fine and that they would deliver it to me next week. The second picture was from the office when they finally figured out was what going on with their own drivers that shows the damage the driver covered up in the first picture. You get what you pay for which is trash.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1900

The move went fine. It was one of the lowest estimates I received and seeing how I did not have any expensive things that needed extra care, I went with SVJ moving.
Overall I am satisfied, a few things to improve:
1) Giving a better ETA on arrival. Even on the day of the move, the company could not provide a time on when the movers would reach my place. Providing an ETA definitely helps in planning.
2) I was told I would receive a call about an hour before the movers were headed to my apartment. I did not receive a call until the movers were right outside. I had to scramble to finish any last minute packing I had left, assuming I would get an hour to finish the move off.

Other than that, the move was fine.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $270

Very, Very disappointing.

I have moved a few times, and have had several experiences with various moving companies, all of which have been positive. I've never in my life posted a negative review. SVJ is the sad exception. Their movers will purposely neglect and damage your property, shake you down for a giant tip at the end and guilt trip you into paying it. When you're forced to speak to their management about the damage they will cause to your property, they will dismiss you, ignore you, even mock you, and then hang up on you.

The SVJ movers removed a plastic cover that was protecting my mattress without asking, and caused it to become completely dirty. After this, the movers demanded I pay a 40% tip!! They actually refused a standard 20% tip offer, and so drove the cost of the move up significantly. When I called the management to request help in paying for the damages to my property, they constantly brushed me off and gave me a run-around. I called at least a dozen times, and each time they had their canned response, saying they needed to speak to their manager, and that he was out of the office. After a few calls they began to openly mock me on the phone.

There are a lot of movers, some cheaper than others. But any cost saving you may think you will have with this company will be completely offset once experience their movers bullying you into paying an exorbitant tip, and once you see the damage they will cause your property.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $700

Let me start by saying that I've moved several times and I have never had such a horrible experience. I also never post complaints, but I feel the need for others to know how bad this experience was. If I can convince one person not to use them, then this post will have been well worth my time.

Three gentlemen arrived to move me, as agreed. Then a fourth gentleman pops up and I am told that he will be helping as well. The lead mover was emphatic about letting me know how much they usually get tipped. The subject of tipping was brought up 3 times. Very unprofessional, to say the least. We all left the first location at the same time. It took the movers close to an hour to arrive at the next location, which was 7 miles away. This extended their time and my bill.(I believe that I paid an additional $120.00 for their extended time). Upon completion of the move, I was asked to sign a bill of lading indicating that all items were received in good condition. I signed the bill of lading without knowledge of any damaged or missing items. I don't know that anyone has the time to hunt through 40+ boxes, bags, inspect all furniture, etc. Over the next 48 hours I unpacked most of my things. I noticed that 2 items were missing. An 18" X 18" metal sign that was handmade ($77.00) and a large round wall mirror ($32.80). (I'm assuming that these items were damaged and/or broken). Additionally, my brand new bedroom furniture and some other wooden pieces of furniture had deep, noticeable scratches. I contacted SVJ first thing Monday morning and they explained that they would mail me a claims form. Two weeks later I called and asked if they could send another form, as I had not received the first. I completed the form and sent it back the day I received it. I had omitted the "weight" of the items that were "lost" as I was unsure what their weights were. I thought the receipts, prices and descriptions would suffice. I sent the form back, only to receive it again 2 weeks later. They attached a form that stated: "Per our terms of agreement you are protected up to but not exceeding $.60 per pound, per article if you sustain a loss or damage to your goods." They also indicated that they would reimburse me, even though I signed off on the bill of lading. So, if my $77.00 sign weighs 5lbs., that's 5 X $.60 = $3.00. I have already replaced the sign and the mirror.. my cost $150.00 as I could not find the originals at the price that I'd paid. I would ask anyone considering SVJ to CHOOSE ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $530

Overcharged above estimate of nearly 50%; failed to follow specific instructions given well in advance; held goods for ransom; attempted to charge double by using credit card number; damaged property which was never packed properly; failed to bring truck of adequate size; fine furniture & antiques never covered or blanketed; arrived 2.5 hours late in the AM & then charged overtime at the end of the day; double transit time; extra days to complete move after assurance move of less than five miles would be done in one day. I've moved all over the US on multiple occasions, as well as back and forth to Europe three times, and NEVER had an experience which was such a disaster of damage, overcharges, excuses and attempts at fraud. Reported to BBB and relevant state authorities. BE SMART: DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2000

The move went very smoothly, movers came on time and time alloted for move was accurate. The 3 men that moved me were very careful in handling everything and asked questions to make things easier for my move. I highly recommend this company, not only did my move go without a hitch, but the price was less than what I thought and everything was completed as planned. I was very happy with the price which made it very easy to give a well deserved tip to each delivery man. **Tip well! The 3 men who moved me work hard and did a move before and after me!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $415

I thought my move was going to be very easy.. an apartment worth of furniture to a storage unit.. no appliances ect... storage unit was close all should be well... turns out the storage unit was hard to find ... my unit was well into the interior and was very busy with many moving trucks all ready there .. no easy access to the unit .. plus security codes that were difficult for me to manage plus it was pouring out and it was memorial day weekend... and I'm pretty sure my boy friend was drunk . (I'm the boyfriend, still drunk and happy she isn't crying anymore) any way... These men took everything in stride and went above and beyond to put up with us and did their job professionally and as quick as they could . I gave them the wrong address to the unit so they even met me at a known location so they could follow me there .. they never complained.. they deserve the most respect for what they put up with .I have used this company many times and they have never failed me... please tip your movers they deserve it so much .. thank you guys!!
